God Bless the U.S.A.

My dad served as a Navy medic and was also in the Army reserve. When I was in elementary school, my dad was stationed in Fort Ord, in Monterey for weeks at a time my mom and my sisters and I would be in Clovis awaiting his safe return. I remember going to church and kneeling down and praying for him to return safe, quickly, and that he wouldn't be sent anywhere further away than he already was. It was only about three hours away from us, but to a 5-year-old, it seems like across the globe. In school we would listen to patriotic music over the loud speaker before reciting the pledge of allegiance. The song "God Bless the USA" would play and the song would make me tear up as I stood among my very young peers. To this day, the song still brings tears to my eyes. Since my childhood I've had the privilege of being in relationships with family friends, loved ones, and friends who have sacrificed so much for our freedom whether it's been years away from their loved ones, missing so many special occasions, or paying the ultimate sacrifice. Thank you to all of our heroes who have served and who are currently serving our country to defend our freedom.

God Bless the USA by Lee Greenwood
If tomorrow all the things were gone
I'd worked for all my life.
And I had to start again
With just my children and my wife

I'd thank my lucky stars,
To be living here today.
Cause the flag still stands for freedom
And they can't take that away

And I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me

And I gladly stand up
Next to you and defend her still today
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA

From the lakes of Minnesota
To the hills of Tennessee
Across the plains of Texas,
From sea to shining sea.

From Detroit down to Houston,
And New York to L.A.
Well there's pride in every American heart,
And its time we stand and say

That I'm proud to be an American
Where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me.

And I gladly stand up
Next to you and defend her still today
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA.

And I'm proud to be and American
Where at least I know I'm free.
And I won't forget the men who died
Who gave that right to me

And I gladly stand up
Next to you and defend her still today
Cause there ain't no doubt I love this land
God bless the USA
